SUMMARY:Common ground: Balancing growth with land conservation
DESCRIPTION:Reserve your spot CMAP for a discussion on navigating development opportunities\, conservation priorities\, and preservation of agricultural lands. \nForests\, wetlands\, parks\, and farms are essential to northeastern Illinois. Open lands contribute to residents’ quality of life\, mitigate floods and heat\, feed our communities\, and are part of what gives northeastern Illinois its character. \nAt the same time\, communities are facing tensions between developing land for housing and economic growth and preserving their local identity. \nHow can northeastern Illinois preserve natural and agricultural lands while also supporting economic development? \nOn September 22\, we’ll explore these topics in a conversation about the tradeoffs and regional coordination that will be required to find common ground on these issues. \nDoors open at 3:00 p.m. for networking. Program begins at 3:30 p.m. \nFollowing the program\, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the main attraction at Richardson Adventure Farm: the world’s largest\, most intricate corn maze. Explore the maze before it opens to the public the following weekend. Comfortable footwear and attire are recommended. \nCome and connect with other leaders from government\, business\, industry\, philanthropy\, and academia. The future of the region’s natural and agricultural spaces will be shaped by the conversations had in rooms like this one. \nCatalyst Series\nThis event is part of CMAP’s Catalyst Series — a set of conversations and convenings that are shaping The Century Plan. \nBuilding a region that thrives far into the future requires bold actions by leaders from every sector\, working together. That’s what The Century Plan is all about: sparking honest dialog\, game-changing commitments\, and a willingness to try new approaches.
