April 1, 2026 Faces of the RTP: Terry Witt, bicycle advocate At 80 years old, Terry Witt sees bicycling as more than recreation — it is a pathway to safer streets, better health, and stronger communities. A longtime Bartlett resident, Terry uses local trails, side paths, and bike lanes for errands, exercise, and connections to Metra service into Chicago. He credits biking with improving his heart health, physical fitness, and mental clarity, while also reducing travel costs and reliance on cars. Terry values recent investments that make biking safer, including separated paths, raised crossings, and improved intersections, but believes continued advocacy is needed to make streets safer for everyone. His experience highlights how thoughtful transportation design can save lives, expand options, and support wellbeing at every age. “The infrastructure is really being built for safety — that’s what helps people feel comfortable getting on their bikes.” — Terry Witt Article by Mike Sobczak Stay connected with your community Newsletter sign-up Opens in a modal Related news Click to read Driving change: a transportation system for the next century Posted on Click to read Driving change: a transportation system for the next century 07.08.26 Click to read Share your feedback on northeastern Illinois' transportation future Posted on Click to read Share your feedback on northeastern Illinois' transportation future 06.12.26 Click to read Faces of the RTP: Jeanette Chavarria-Torres, president of DCH Construction and Hauling Posted on Click to read Faces of the RTP: Jeanette Chavarria-Torres, president of DCH Construction and Hauling 05.12.26 Click to read Faces of the RTP: Ben Chargott, client success and training specialist at Access Living Posted on Click to read Faces of the RTP: Ben Chargott, client success and training specialist at Access Living 05.12.26
