As northeastern Illinois’ metropolitan planning organization, CMAP is the decision-making body for all regional transportation plans and programs. The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) maintains the approved list of projects for the region — the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) — and selects projects for federal funding through the Carbon Reduction Program, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program, Surface Transportation Program, and Transportation Alternatives Program. CMAP also offers technical assistance to communities for planning activities, grant readiness, and plan implementation, providing interagency expertise that can build up capacity and help better support the region’s transit network.
