CMAP seeks community organizations to serve as advisors on new regional accessibility council

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking community-based organizations to serve on its new Regional Mobility Council (RMC). This council will function as an advisory committee responsible for assessing CMAP’s work on transportation and mobility for people with disabilities.

The RMC will evaluate relevant facets of CMAP’s work in northeastern Illinois and serve as an advisory body for regional awareness and implementation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance and mobility.

CMAP will select up to 10 community-based organizations to participate in the year-long program, with a stipend for their time and expertise.

Meetings will be held in hybrid format at CMAP’s office at the Old Post Office (433 W Van Buren St. Suite 450, Chicago, IL 60607, downtown near major transit) and online. We encourage in-person attendance to promote discussion and networking, but we understand that’s not always feasible and are pleased to provide a virtual option. The RMC will meet 12 times between late April 2025 and June 2026.

As a member of this council, organizations will:

  • Influence decision-making that affects communities throughout the region
  • Raise awareness of mobility challenges across the region and provide data-driven recommendations for improvement
  • Offer constructive feedback on CMAP’s priorities, which include programs and initiatives that promote inclusive growth, resilience, and prioritized investment
  • Learn more about CMAP’s role and highlight resources that can help improve regional mobility and ADA compliance
  • Gain networking and relationship-building opportunities
  • Receive a $3,600 stipend

How to apply

The application is open! The deadline to apply is extended to Tuesday, April 1 at noon.

CMAP is seeking organizations that represent and/or are familiar with the contexts and priorities of people with disabilities, in particular related to transportation, housing, and economic mobility. We encourage organizations with members who have lived experience with a disability to apply.

Applicants are asked to fill out an online form to provide basic information, as well as answer several brief questions on their organization’s goals, services, and interest in the Regional Mobility Council. CMAP will notify selected participants in early April.

If you have questions, please review the FAQ document or contact CMAP Senior Planner Patty Mangano at pmangano@cmap.illinois.gov.
