September 16, 2026 Midlothian adopts plan to make village streets safer The Village of Midlothian adopted its Safety Action Plan on July 22, 2026, following a collaborative planning process with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and a team of consultants. The plan is designed to help eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries. It draws on crash data, community feedback, and traffic safety best practices to guide recommendations. The plan also uses a Safe System Approach focusing on preventative, redundant, and harm reducing strategies — to improve safety for all roadway users, with a focus on the most vulnerable individuals, like pedestrians and bicyclists. Its High Injury Network represents just 5 percent of its roadway miles but accounts for 66 percent of severe crashes. These crashes are concentrated along major corridors, including 147th Street, Cicero Avenue, Pulaski Road, and Kedzie Avenue. The plan outlines priority actions for the next five years, including school-zone improvements, neighborhood greenways, and recommendations for the 147th street corridor.
