Population shifts in northeastern Illinois are changing the kind of housing people need. How must we act together to meet the moment?

Northeastern Illinois’ demographics are shifting fast. By 2050, the region’s senior population will grow by 685,000 people, while the under-40 population will shrink by 600,000.

Aging significantly impacts people’s economic, social, and personal lives — including how and where they live. People who live longer will contribute to society longer and will need housing that meets their changing needs. At the same time, fewer younger people and shifts toward smaller households will shape future demand for housing options.

The solution isn’t just more housing, it’s the right housing, in the right places, at the right prices — for residents of all ages. Regions that get housing right will have a competitive economic edge.

Join the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning in Aurora on October 28 as we convene leaders from across the region for a conversation about housing for our changing region.

Come and connect with other leaders from government, business, industry, philanthropy, and academia. The future of housing in northeastern Illinois will be shaped by conversations like this one.
