The profiles provide details about each of the 7 counties, 284 municipalities, and 77 Chicago community areas in northeastern Illinois. You’ll find text and graphics you can use on your community’s social media, newsletter, and website to share this useful data. Newsletter text General announcement Data you can use: Local Housing Profiles provide key information about northeastern Illinois The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning has created Local Housing Profiles to help policymakers, planners, researchers, and residents understand key information about their community. The profiles are developed in partnership with the Institute for Housing Studies at DePaul University. You’ll learn about housing demand, supply, and affordability, relative to regional trends. When were the homes in your community built? What does it cost to rent a home in your community? How many people in your community own their homes? Learn more in your Local Housing Profile. Community specific announcement You can use information specific to your community to create an announcement that resonates with your residents. Did you know that most of Berwyn’s housing is at least as old as the movie The Wizard of Oz? Or that if you live in the Village of Bensenville, you’re just as likely to rent your home as you are to be a homeowner? Also, April is #FairHousingMonth so consider using the hashtag through April 30. Did you know? Almost 32% of housing units in Will County were built after the year 2000. Compare that to all of northeastern Illinois, where 84% of housing was built before the 21st century. In Aurora, the median purchase price for a house was more than $47,000 cheaper than the median price overall in northeastern Illinois. In Cook County, 58% of homes are owner-occupied. More than 39% of the city’s housing units were built in 1939 or earlier. By comparison, only 21% of all homes in northeastern Illinois were created during that time. Know more! In northeastern Illinois, about 11% of renters have a household income in that range. More than 62% of housing units in Berwyn were built in 1939 or earlier. In northeastern Illinois, 21% of housing units were created before 1939. More than 70% of the housing units were created in the year 2000 or later. In Lake County overall, only 20% of all housing units were built in that time. That’s significantly higher than Lake County in general, where 10% of heads of household were 75 and older. Check them out: https://cmap.is/housing-profiles If you live in Bensenville, whose motto is “Gateway to Opportunity,” you’re just as likely to rent your home as you are to be a homeowner — 51% of homes are owner-occupied, and 49% are renter-occupied. About 47% of housing units in the village were built in the year 2000 or later. In Will County overall, 32% of all homes have been created in that time. By comparison, 28% of homes in Cook County were built in that time period.
