October 1, 2024 CMAP launches new Regional ADA Coordinators Group to share resources and facilitate peer exchange CMAP is launching the new Regional ADA Coordinators Group to provide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) coordinators with practical, actionable knowledge and resources to help improve accessibility and ADA compliance in northeastern Illinois. This is also a space for ADA coordinators to connect with each other to share challenges, opportunities, and lessons learned. The Regional ADA Coordinators Group is the latest step in CMAP’s multi-year accessibility program providing direct support to communities in the region. This effort builds on regional momentum to make northeastern Illinois more accessible and inclusive and achieve compliance with federal ADA regulations. Over the past two years, CMAP has hosted 16 accessibility compliance trainings throughout the region, attended by 460+ individuals representing 140 organizations, including 86 municipalities (training recordings and materials are available online). We’re also working directly with communities in the region to create ADA self-evaluations and transition plans for the public right-of-way. The Regional ADA Coordinators Group plans to meet 12 times over the next two years. We encourage ADA coordinators across northeastern Illinois to join us in this new initiative!
