March 21, 2025 Grand Avenue Corridor Plan: A new vision for Franklin Park’s future The Village of Franklin Park, in collaboration with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), has adopted the Grand Avenue Corridor Plan to guide development over the next 10 to 20 years. This plan was shaped by extensive community engagement and research, ensuring that the vision aligns with residents’ and businesses’ needs. Grand Avenue is a key commercial and transportation corridor that faces challenges such as aging infrastructure, pedestrian safety, and commercial vacancies. The plan provides a flexible framework for addressing these issues while fostering economic growth, sustainability, and mobility. The plan’s core focus is enhancing Grand Avenue’s walkability and safety. Recommendations include streetscape improvements, green infrastructure, and better connections to public transit, including Pace bus service. The plan also identifies opportunities to attract new businesses, diversify housing options, and improve public spaces. By prioritizing pedestrian-friendly development and transportation alternatives, Franklin Park hopes to create a more vibrant and accessible corridor. Implementing the Grand Avenue Corridor Plan will be a collaborative effort involving local leaders, businesses, and community members. The plan outlines short- and long-term strategies, including targeted investments, zoning updates, and sustainability initiatives. As Franklin Park evolves, the Grand Avenue Corridor Plan will serve as a guiding tool to create a thriving, resilient, and inclusive community.
