April 29, 2021 CMAP Talks complete streets: Safe by design In northeastern Illinois, average annual traffic fatalities have grown by almost 17 percent since 2012. Communities increasingly are looking for solutions to improve the safety of all travelers. In our recent CMAP Talks webinar, we explored how policies and design practices for complete streets can better manage vehicle speeds and create safer conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists. Panelists included Tim Gustafson with the engineering and construction firm Epstein, Carlos Feliciano of the Illinois Department of Transportation, and Roopa Anjanappa with the City of Aurora. The discussion was moderated by Victoria Jacobsen, CMAP planner. Watch the webinar recording to learn more about complete streets design and safety.
